Mauricio Garcia is a designer, perfumer and certified aromatherapist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. His fascination with the botanical world began in his Abuelita’s small garden in foggy South San Francisco—the fruit trees and the roses, the yerba buena and other herbs that grew in clay pots, the wall of fragrant pink jasmine that seemed to always be blooming.

Mauricio believes his purpose is to create beauty that nourishes our connections to the botanical, natural and ancestral worlds. Through Herbcraft, he weaves many spirits into one perfume, conjuring portals through which we can shift our energies and realities. It is his hope that the fragrant beings he designs will help you in establishing connections with your own spirits.

His inspiration is born from the fragrant spirits and ecology of the Pacific west coast—the marine fog, redwood forests, and the golden grassland hills home to butterflies, coyotes and many other beings.

Because the purpose of Herbcraft Perfumery is to honor the natural world, Herbcraft Perfumery is committed to not using materials from plants listed as vulnerable, near-threatened, endangered, critically-endangered or extinct in the wild by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species™, CITES or other organizations.

We utilize alternatives or more sustainable reconstructions and accords made of natural and man-made materials for essences like oud, frankincense, rosewood, sandalwood, vanilla and other threatened plant species. These blends are designed using modern perfumery techniques with the application of the laws of sympathetic magic.

Mauricio is co-founder of the Coalition of Sustainable Perfumery, a group of makers and industry experts coming together to promote sustainable, renewable and ethical practices around materials sourcing, packaging and education.

Mauricio draws upon 18 years of working with and learning from herbalists, medicine makers, master craftswomen of perfumery, spiritual practitioners and, of course, plants and spirits themselves. He is an advocate for perfumery’s stewardship of the environment and its reclamation as sacred substance.

Mauricio also facilitates classes, workshops and interactive activities on perfumery, aromatherapy, botanical folklore and fragrant witchcraft. His clients have included organizations and companies such as the Institute for Art and Olfaction, Tigerlily Perfumery/Ministry of Scent, IDEO, Pinterest, Fenty Beauty, the Scarlet Sage Herb Co. and multiple spirits brands.
